Urban Renewal

...I have been exploring the idea of urban renewal, waste, and re-use for a body of work. These two pieces utilize found objects and wool utilizing crochet and hairpin lace technique to finish the work.

Dad's Letter Blanket

I recently came across a cherished item my Dad gave me (it was carefully stored away for safe keeping).  In 1953, at Abbeville, La. High, my dad (who lettered in both track and football) was awarded a wool blanket since his jacket could not accommodate any more letters.  Beautiful red and gray wool.  The "A", of course, is for Abbeville--J.D. is for Jean Duhon, 1953.  Way to go Dad....

Views of the "360 Bridge" in Austin, overlooking Lake Austin, which really isn't a lake but the Colorado River (or so I've been told).  Beautiful to behold.

Stag Austin

Over the weekend, I had an amazing shopping experience with the guys at Stag in Austin, Texas.  The store was incredible, and the service was impeccable.  Inspiration was everywhere, but I was on a mission for some rigid 501's, which was no problem at all to find.  Thanks Ted, for such great service!!

Build it and they will come: My dream home.

I've been musing on what my dream home would look like.  Well, I have drawn the interior (above photo), and the exterior would look similar to the photo below.  All I need is some land in the country and agreement from my wife to live in a quanset-style home.  I think the land will be no problem!

Get Stuffed!

...a couple of pillow covers ready for their down inserts.  I decided to construct the pillow covers by hand, because it just seemed the right way to do it--not to mention, I could not figure out how to use the serger.  The stitching (chain stitch, of course) was very meditative, and once I got it started, it did not take long at all.  Only 6 more to go...
