Railway Cafe is 1 Year Old

...our friends at Railway Cafe' in Athens, TX  celebrated their one year anniversary yesterday.  We had such a great time helping with the design of the space and I have to say--the food is incredible.  So, if you find yourself in Athens, TX...I do recommend stopping in for a unforgettable lunch at the Railway Cafe. Congratulations Justin.

John Houshmand Aluminum Table

John Houshmand does not need an introduction from me--I just simply love the use of aluminum in some of his pieces.  He sand cast an actual oak slab to achieve this table top.  Brilliant!

This powders' Bitchin'

I used to try to find the "perfect" faux snow for Christmas decor.  Well, I never did find it--I figured out how to make my own.  While cutting a large styrofoam block for a cake base, I noticed how the flakes produced while cutting glistened in the light--just like fresh powder.  So, I broke out the cheese grater and went to town--and a couple of bloody knuckles later I had a heaping mound of the best lookin' faux snow I'd ever seen.  I used it last year in a grove of pine trees set up in the interior of a client's home.  You could not tell that it was not real snow!!!  It even has the same heft as wet snow.

Back in Black

I am so glad the color black is so in vogue these days......pulled these shots from the MAKR blog.  I also am into "small" living these days.  I could move into either of these dwellings today.

"Heading" in the right direction

...I think I have finally found a header (see new above) that I am happy with--for now anyway.  I wanted to avoid the obvious "A A" motif with antlers, but I really like the look of it.
